About Us

Built by Aircrew. For Aircrew.

I started Herky Bird Co. because I was tired of seeing generic military gear. After 25+ years flying C-130s and performing maintenance on F-15s, I knew what we actually needed—gear that gets the details right.

The idea came from watching crews wear cheap hats they wouldn't be caught dead in. I thought: what if I made something they'd actually want to wear? Something that looked sharp, felt solid, and showed respect for the aircraft and the mission. So that's what I built.

Here's the Real Story

Inside the Herky Bird Co. shop — workbench with hats in production, laser engraver, and the shop dog on duty

The Herky Bird Co. shop — where every hat is built. Morale officer on patrol.

I'm based in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, running this out of our shop. My wife handles all the wood-burned flags and flight suit memory totes—she's the artist behind those. She also runs the business side because honestly, I'm better with the laser engraver than I am with spreadsheets. Our kids help pack orders before they head out. Even the shop dogs have a job—they're officially in charge of morale.

Handcrafted wood-burned flags—her signature work.

This isn't a print-on-demand operation where you order from some website that drops ships your stuff. I design everything. I laser-engrave every patch. I look at every single hat before it leaves the shop. If the tail flash is off, if the aircraft silhouette doesn't look right from someone who actually knows the bird, I fix it. That takes longer than cranking out a thousand generic hats, but it's the only way I know how to do this.

What Actually Matters to Me

I've spent enough time in the cockpit and on the flight line to know that the people doing this work deserve gear built by someone who understands the mission. Not someone trying to make a quick buck. Not some AI-designed "military-inspired" merchandise. Real gear. Built right.

Whether it's a C-130, an F-15, an MC-130, a KC-135, or something completely custom—I make sure the details are accurate. The crews I work with notice. They send me photos of deployment patches pinned to the order, stories about retirements, and missions that matter. That's what keeps me running.

What We Do

Custom laser-engraved leather patch hats. Hand-crafted wood-burned American flags with aircraft silhouettes. Flight suit memory totes that transform your career into something you can carry every day. Squadron bulk orders for deployments, retirements, and change-of-command gifts. Aviation gear that actually means something.
